• An Economist's View These guys kill me…they couch their theories in overly complex language, and miss the entire point: our cycles are caused, simply, by us being human.
• Buffet A great read on how he did it.
• Federal Debt Our debt is a problem, but nothing we haven’t conquered before (and with concurrent spectacular growth).
• High-tech Bible This book formed the basis for my high tech business career. Every strategy I’ve espoused and executed on has taken this thinking into full account and now forms the basis for my tech investing.
• Historical Charting Some great historical charts. One of my favorites: run a Nominal GDP chart graph from 1790 to present on a log scale. Note how SMOOTH and how fast U.S. growth has been since the Fed learned its lessons during the Great Depression.
• Intelligencia Drivel Couched in theories and complex vocabulary, these guys seem really smart…common sense dictates otherwise.
• Investools Great stock search engine and valuation tool. Not cheap, though.
• Mutual funds are sloooow The average mutual fund’s performance is horrible. Main reason: they manage too much money to get in and out of positions quickly enough to beat the market so no matter how smart their stock picking, they are almost entirely beholden to market performanc
• Phil Town's Blog Phil Town’s book, “Rule #1 Investing” got me re-interested in the stock market. He espouses a modernized “Buffet-like” approach.
• Read, but don't believe This book formed the basis for my MBA in Finance. And so, so unfortunate…it’s still being taught in the best b-schools. Read it to understand how to beat all the intelligencia who believe this drivel.
• Reminiscences of a Stock Operator by Edwin Lefevre Chronicles much of the life and trades of Jesse Livermore, one of the most famous traders ever. Died broke.
• Security Analysis Buffet’s Bible, and today’s value investor bible. Buffet grew out of the dogma of this book, but it was always his fall back.
• The 18 Year Real Estate Cycle Understanding and monitoring this cycle is key.
• The Motley Fool These guys have some good picks…my value/growth searches don’t always pick up a potentially fast moving stock with a good story.
• The Street – Jim Cramer's Site I mainly use Cramer’s show to get a read on how NY traders are thinking.
• Trading is A LOT like poker I’ve played poker for years, and as I’ve traded, I began to realize just how similar it is. This is the best book on poker ever written. But, just as the game passed me up (I couldn’t play enough to stay competitive), the game has passed this book up.
• Wall Street: The Other Las Vegas I’m not the only one who thinks trading is like playing poker. This is a fascinating read, by someone who aparrently invented momentum trading in the 50′s.
• William O'Neil's: How to Make Money in Stocks Fascinating read…this book just might have turned me into a chartist. Tells you exactly how to find the high-flyers.
